It was a chilly, rainy afternoon for this year’s Chore Horse Competition but that didn’t stop competitors, spectators and volunteers from coming out and supporting our competition. We had a field of ten teams manoeuvre the course. At the end of the day, we were treated with a demo from Foss Irwin’s six horse hitch and an eight horse hitch with horses that have never worked together driven by Dwight Beard.

July 30, 2015 marked the 20th Anniversary of the grand opening of the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site.  The Ranch received some very exciting news! John Barlow, MP for Macleod, announced the Bar U would receive an important infrastructure investment totalling $4 million to be used to preserve four historical buildings, the Work Horse Barn, the Bunkhouse/Self feeder (including moving it to its original location), the Machine Shed and the Slaughter House.  The day was topped off with birthday cake and a visit from the Blackfoot Dancers.

  BAR U RANCH RODEO
This year we had to reschedule our popular Ranch Rodeo from our regular weekend of Aug 11 to the weekend of Aug 25, 2013 due to the rains that the kept our arena looking more like a bog than an arena.
Aug 25 was hot and sunny with a good crowd and lots of action. 1st place went to Meadow Springs, with silver buckles made by Ralph Nelson and sponsored by the Friends going to the winners. 2nd place was a tie between Northfork Grazing and Circle S Ranch and the winner was determined by a foot race between Northforks Nolan Pharis and the Circle S’s Charmayne Sawley. Northfork won and collected the second place prize of monogrammed halters donated by Cowboy  Country Clothing. 3rd place Circle S Ranch won feed tubs and roping gloves donated by Cattlemans Corner.  The Top Hand award went to Tyler Sawley of the Circle S Ranch and he won a bit made by Ralph Nelson and sponsored by VJV Foothills Livestock Auction. Thank you so very much to all our organizers, donors and volunteers who make this such a great day.
